Memberships and initiatives
As the promotional bank for agribusiness and rural areas, we support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. For the first time in 2021, we assigned our newly granted promotional loans to the SDGs as a means of transparently presenting the intended positive contributions of our promotional lending activities.

We are also a member of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) Green Bond Principles and the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF). These memberships enable us to exchange information and ideas with other financial institutions and enterprises concerning our intention to make a meaningful contribution to climate change mitigation and environmental protection. Our PCAF membership enables us to establish a well-founded basis for our CO2 inventory and sustainability targets in our banking activities. We attach great importance to protecting the environment in the general area of our headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. The Ökoprofit Programme of the Rhine-Main Region was dissolved in 2024. Rentenbank will seek to obtain a certification of its internal operations according to comparably high, economy-wide environmental standards in the future.
In addition, Rentenbank would like to voluntarily prepare a Sustainability Report according to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) for the first time in 2026. This Directive requires companies to present a detailed account of their sustainability actions and progress made towards emissions reduction. A bank like Rentenbank must not only monitor and reduce its own emissions, but also ensure that the projects and enterprises it finances increasingly implement sustainable practices.
By preparing detailed reports and implementing its climate strategy, Rentenbank makes an important contribution to the goal of attaining national and global climate targets while also promoting the sustainable development of the agriculture sector.
