E1-5 – Energy consumption and energy mix

Data basis

Rentenbank’s energy consumption forms a key basis for determining greenhouse gas emissions in banking operations and is therefore reported below by energy source and energy carrier. Rentenbank does not operate any energy-intensive production processes. Energy use is essentially limited to electricity for office operations and heat for heating office space. Fossil fuels are only used to supply heat to the temporary building. The data are based on invoices and load profile analyses from energy suppliers, as well as on available invoices for rented office space.

Total energy consumption and energy mix in own operations

Rentenbank’s total energy consumption in the 2025 reporting year consists of purchased electricity and purchased heat. Rentenbank does not generate its own energy.

Energy consumption from fossil sources

In the reporting year 2025, Rentenbank purchased 2.528 MWh of heat from natural gas to provide space heating in the temporary building. No other fossil fuels, such as coal, crude oil/fuel oil or other fossil fuels, were used.

Energy consumption from renewable sources

Rentenbank obtains 100% of its electricity from certified renewable sources. Consumption of renewable energy in the 2025 reporting year amounted to 2,336 MWh and corresponded to Rentenbank’s total electricity consumption (market-based). Rentenbank does not produce its own renewable energy.

Own energy generation

Rentenbank did not generate any energy in the reporting year. In-house energy generation is currently not possible because the main site is being refurbished and Rentenbank is therefore operating from a temporary building.

Energy intensity of climate-intensive sectors

As a promotional bank, Rentenbank is not active in climate-intensive sectors in terms of its own operations. Energy intensity per net revenue from climate-intensive sectors is therefore not applicable.
